1. Cohort Learning & Community

Interns become part of a close-knit cohort built around respect, authenticity, and shared learning. Through weekly reflections, lunches, and roundtable discussions, interns have opportunities to learn from one another, reflect on their experiences, and develop as leaders.

2. Applied Research & Writing

Interns contribute to Portico, IGE’s blog , developing their ability to research, write, and communicate about issues at the intersection of religion and global affairs.

3. In-House Sessions & Mentorship

Interns participate in workshops and learning sessions led by IGE staff and subject-matter experts. They become familiar with IGE’s mission and methodology, gain exposure to different areas of expertise, and have opportunities to shadow staff and contribute to ongoing projects. Lastly, they have a chance to ask real and practical questions regarding the career journey. 

4. Field Studies

Interns participate in and lead field visits exploring religious communities, government agencies, and cultural institutions in the Washington, DC, area. Each experience is followed by cohort discussion and reflection, helping interns connect what they observe in the field to broader questions of faith, diplomacy, and international affairs.

5. Professional Events & Networking

Interns gain firsthand experience supporting and hosting IGE programs and events. From events on Capitol Hill to gatherings with international affairs professionals, interns help execute programs, engage with practitioners, build professional networks, and represent IGE in the broader Washington community.

6. Communications & Social Media

Interns have opportunities to develop creative communications strategies that expand IGE’s reach and engage new audiences. Through social media, digital storytelling, and other communications projects, interns help share IGE’s work and invite more people into conversations about religion, religious freedom, and global affairs.
