IGE Observes Uzbekistan Parliamentary Monitoring of Religious Freedom Progress
On May 20, IGE was invited by the Uzbekistan government to observe a parliamentary monitoring of the government’s Religious Freedom Roadmap and the status of the revision of the Religion Law. The event, the first of its kind in the country’s history, was held by videoconference and included representatives from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Justice, Committee of Religious Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Supreme Court, General Prosecutor’s Office, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The session provided Uzbek members of parliament the opportunity to query government officials about religion laws and policies and the implementation of its Religious Freedom Roadmap. IGE was one of the international observers invited by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
