IGE Hosts Conversation with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani
May 23, 2025, Washington, DC – The Institute for Global Engagement (IGE) was honored to host Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for a conversation on religious freedom developments in Kurdistan and the broader region. Co-convened by Shai Fund, In Defense of Christians, Religious Freedom Institute, and the IRF Summit, the event drew over 60 representatives from the U.S. government, NGOs, and academic institutions.
Prime Minister Barzani highlighted how the KRG enjoys one of the best environments for religious freedom and pluralism in the wider Middle East region. He also emphasized how maintaining and strengthening peaceful coexistence between the KRG’s religious communities, including Muslim, Christian, and Yazidi, was a priority of his government.
The conversation at IGE was part of Prime Minister Barzani’s official Washington, DC visit where he met with several government officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
