All “Laos” Updates
The Lao Evangelical Church conducted a second workshop of religious freedom in Vientiane and a peace building workshop in Savannakhet.
From July 12-15, the Lao Evangelical Church conducted a peace building and conflict transformation training workshop in Vientiane. This first ecumenical effort in peace building included 31 Protestants and 10 Catholic Christian leaders.

After two intense weeks in Laos and 21 meetings with government and religious leaders it appears that religious persecution has decreased, and religious freedom has begun to slowly expand again. By the end of this year, IGE plans to host four Religious Freedom Education and Dialogue seminars and six Peace Building workshops.

From August 17–19, IGE and its partners conducted a Religious Freedom Education and Dialogue (RFED) seminar in the Muang Mai District of Phongsaly Province. According to IGE Laos program officer Steve Bailey, “This was only the second time Phongsaly Province has allowed a RFED seminar to take place in the province, and the first time it has taken place in Muang Mai District. This is significant because there are an increasing number of tribal minority people who have become Christians in this District.”
