Jean Wu

Jean Wu is a Program Officer for East Asia at the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE). Prior to joining IGE in May 2014, Jean completed a non-degree one year Japanese language study at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.

Prior to her time in Japan, Jean served as the Administrative Officer at the Formosan Association for Public Affairs for two years where she assisted with the organization’s advocacy effort on the Hill and managed administrative tasks.

Jean obtained her M.A. degree in International Relations and Diplomacy in 2009 from Seton Hall University’s Whitehead School. As a graduate student, Jean interned at the Permanent Mission of Nauru to the United Nations during the 63rd Session of the General Assembly, where she interacted with delegates from around the world. She also served as an intern/coordinator for the Cultural Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, helping Taiwanese students in the area and promoting U.S-Taiwan academic exchange.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and a minor in Italian in 2007 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She spent her junior year studying abroad in Italy at the Università degli studi di Urbino and latter half of her senior year at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.

Jean speaks Taiwanese, Mandarin, Italian and Japanese. She calls Taipei, Taiwan her hometown and currently resides in Virginia.

Sarah Brown

Sarah Brown is a Program Officer for East Asia at the Institute for Global Engagement. She is also currently pursuing an M.A. degree in Asian Studies at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service where she is focusing on International Political Economy of Asia and Politics and Security of Asia. Sarah is also an honors candidate in the Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy at Georgetown.

Before moving to Washington, DC, Sarah worked as an Associate Translation Consultant for GP Strategies Corporation in Columbia, Maryland. At GP Strategies, she coordinated the translation of training documents into Chinese for a multinational corporation in Shanghai, China and established best practices for translation of training materials to other languages. Prior to working for GP Strategies, Sarah spent three years teaching English at a university in Harbin, China. She also has experience working in education in the US. In summer 2013, she was the Chinese Dorm Head at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy in Poultney, VT, a summer language-immersion program for high school students learning Chinese.

Sarah graduated Summa cum Laude from Dartmouth College in 2008 with a B.A. in Asian Languages and Literatures. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Sarah also volunteers with the Global China Center where she translates biographies of Chinese Christians for the Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity Project.
