Program Officer for Myanmar

Person: The Myanmar Program Officer is an analytical thinker, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to complex and sensitive issues. The Program Officer is committed to creating partnerships and practical agreements between governmental and religious communities that promote a culturally-owned and legally protected religious freedom which contributes to social and political stability. IGE’s relational diplomacy is grounded in a commitment to first study, listen to, and understand the local context and then engage it. The Program Officer is willing to take on full responsibilities and challenges to master tasks. This person loves the nuances of strategy and cross-cultural engagement while paying exceptional attention to detail, organization, and administrative capacity. He/she is also open to change and considerable variety of demands in the work environment. The Program Officer is a people person, possessing a sense of humor and sensitivity to interact with various types of people. Most importantly, this person has a strong Christian faith commitment.

Position: The Myanmar Program Officer reports to the Vice President for Overseas Programs. The Program Officer will:

    Work closely with the Vice President for Overseas Programs on overall strategy for Myanmar programs;
  • Oversee operational details related to Myanmar programs;
  • Manage funds, create budgets, and monitor expenses; ensuring federal fund requirements are met;
  • Write grant proposals and subsequent reporting to donors;
  • Establish, maintain, and deepen relationships and trust with IGE’s partners;
  • Represent IGE and communicate regularly with all stakeholders in the program countries and the U.S. (stakeholders include political appointees, government officials, embassy personnel, religious group leaders, and NGO partners);
  • Execute content and logistics of reciprocal visits (visits include U.S. delegations to program country and delegations from program country to the U.S.);
  • Lead implementation of all projects in the field including academic and policy advocacy on rule of law/good governance on religious freedom, religion-related policy implementation, and religious harassments;
  • Coordinate and/or conduct research and writing pertaining to IGE’s mission, country programs, and related issues of importance; and,
  • Maintain and monitor Myanmar program’s related content on IGE’s website.

Qualifications: The Myanmar Program Officer will have a proven capacity for creative and analytical thinking: developing, designing, or creating current and new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products. This person will possess any combination of experience or education equal to a Master’s degree, and at least five years experience in an international work environment. Thorough knowledge of cross-cultural communication and cross-cultural work relationship (specifically well-versed with cultural understanding of Myanmar and/or Southeast Asia). Advanced level or fluency in Burmese language preferred.
