IGE and Vietnam Partners Mark 20 Years of Progress in Religion and Rule of Law

  • March 21, 2025

(Hanoi, Vietnam) From March 11-12, 2025, the Institute for Global Engagement (IGE) and its Vietnam partners hosted a two-day conference bringing together 80 participants including policymakers, academics, and faith leaders from Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, the United States, and Vietnam. In addition to IGE, the conference was co-hosted by the Institute of Ethnicity and Religion at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Vietnam-USA Society at the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, and the International Center for Law and Religion Studies at Brigham Young University.

Hosted at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in Hanoi, the conference featured open and candid discussions on the protection of religious rights and comparative perspectives and models on religious freedom from different regions of the world. Participants explored the role of religion in society, focusing on its connections to good governance, human rights, foreign relations, human dignity, and holistic development. The discussions were structured around three key frameworks: religion and the rule of law, religion and human dignity, and cross-cultural religious literacy.

The event also marked two decades of progress in advancing religion and the rule of law in Vietnam. One day before the conference, international delegates participated in a study tour of Ninh Binh province, Vietnam’s ancient capital, to experience the region’s religious diversity and cultural heritage.
