Center for Women, Faith & Leadership and Institute of Women in Religion & Culture Host Women’s Leadership Workshop in Ghana
IGE’s Center for Women, Faith & Leadership (CWFL) partnered with the Institute of Women in Religion & Culture (IWRC) at Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra, Ghana, to host a workshop for women faith leaders on May 11, 2024. This Interfaith Women’s Gathering brought together 70 women across different faiths and cultures, including Christian church leaders, a Muslim women’s group, seminary students, and Ghanaian Queen Mothers.
The workshop was hosted at Trinity Theological Seminary by IWRC deputy director Joyce Boham. Sessions were led by both local women leaders and CWFL experts including program assistant Kyrsten Turner and senior fellows Kristen Lundquist Mahosky and Afeefa Syeed. Workshop participants engaged in breakout groups and discussions regarding the importance of personal leadership and faith, mental health, and storytelling.
One of the participants, Mercy Amba Oduyoye, founder of the Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians, encouraged women to use their voice to tell their story. The Circle is a pan-African organization that mentors the next generation of African women theologians by investigating how religions affect the lives of women and how they can be interpreted for the empowerment of women and their communities.
IWRC will continue the interfaith conversations by creating small group dialogues to explore questions related to women, religion, mental health, personal leadership, and storytelling.
